There is something incredibly primal about Libyan Desert Glass. These natural, unpolished pieces carry the raw energy of one of the most mysterious impact materials on Earth.

Formed around 29 million years ago within the Great Sand Sea of the Sahara Desert, Libyan Desert Glass is believed to have been created during an immense meteor impact or atmospheric explosion that generated temperatures so extreme the desert sand melted into glass.

Unlike polished pieces, these natural forms still hold all the original texture, sculpting, wind shaping, and ancient surface character created over millions of years in the desert environment. Some pieces glow almost golden honey in the light, whilst others hold softer champagne or pale lemon tones.

There’s something quite humbling about holding a piece of material formed through such violent cosmic and earthly forces, then shaped slowly by the desert over unimaginable stretches of time.

Even the ancient Egyptians held Libyan Desert Glass in high regard. A carved scarab of it was famously placed within Tutankhamun’s burial jewellery, linking this mysterious material with transformation, protection, and divine connection.
