Smoky Elestial Quartz Cluster – Brazil - Private Collection
504g • Approx. 12 x 8 x 6cm
This is a superb example of genuine Smoky Elestial Quartz from Brazil (my own private collection), displaying the complex, layered growth structures that make true elestials so distinctive and increasingly difficult to obtain. Much of the better material has disappeared from the market over recent years, making quality pieces such as this far harder to source than they once were.
The cluster is made up of multiple intergrown Smoky Quartz crystals, each showing the stepped, skeletal formations that define elestial growth. Rather than smooth crystal faces, the surfaces are covered in terraces, windows, recesses, and geometric patterns, creating an incredible amount of detail across the entire specimen.
The colour ranges from translucent smoky grey through to deeper smoky tones, with light passing through many areas of the crystal. As the piece is turned, different faces catch the light, revealing new layers, internal structures, and hidden crystal growth beneath the surface.
True elestials are often referred to as "alligator quartz" due to their distinctive textured growth patterns, but this specimen demonstrates why serious collectors value them so highly. The crystal development is complex, natural, and beautifully preserved, showing the kind of growth habit that simply cannot be replicated.
A substantial and highly characterful Smoky Elestial that represents some of the finest material Brazil became known for, and a wonderful example of a crystal type that is becoming increasingly scarce.
